On Monday, February 23rd, 2020 the Supreme Court heard the case of US Forest Service & Atlantic Coast Pipeline v. Cowpasture River Preservation Association. At stake was whether or not the Atlantic Coast Pipeline Company had legally obtained permits to cross the Appalachian Trail. Some of the residents impacted by the pipeline construction had traveled up from southern Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina to witness the case. During the morning session numerous environmental justice groups and concerned citizens rallied outside to show their support for halting the pipeline construction.
